Gravesham Hockey Club
was founded in June 2000, with a merger between Gravesend Men's Hockey Club
and Old Gravesendian's Men's Hockey Club. Previously the sides had been
friendly rivals in several of the leagues and the merger was a natural
progression, considering the proximity of the two sides.
We currently field 3 men's
teams, spread over about 40 regular players, all aptly supported with
irregulars and retired former members, in various role from umpiring to
administration. All teams play in the Kent Open leagues, at various
standards, due to the wide base and variety of players.
We are allied closely with
Gravesend Ladies Hockey Club, who use the same facilities and home pitch,
and we support each other regularly.
The aims of our Club are:
a) to promote the social,
athletic and other related interests of its members through the game of
field hockey;
b) to actively contribute
towards the betterment of its members and the Club House;
c) to support and promote
the game of field hockey amongst the Gravesham Borough where appropriate;
d) to abide by the rules
and recommendations of England Hockey and the Kent Hockey Association, where
not in conflict with the other Aims of the Club.
We also field a touring
side, who have recently visited such far away places as Weymouth, Barcelona,
Weston Super Mare and Guernsey. Tours are planned around Easter each year
with places eagerly contested early on.
All abilities of players
and umpires, from novice through to county, are welcomed at the Club, where
the atmosphere is relaxed and definitely focused on the social side of
hockey. Junior membership is restricted, although anyone above the age of 15
should find themselves able to play.
We play our league games
each Saturday during the season, between October and March, with friendly
games arranged in and around these times. Our Club colours are navy blue and
red.
